A comprehensive curriculum complete with lesson plans that fulfill national standards in the areas of U.S. History, Social Studies, and Music Education are presented in the elementary classroom. This interdisciplinary approach is followed by a live interactive performance by Des Moines Jazz musicians demonstrating and reinforcing the classroom activities of the previous weeks. Classroom lessons after the concert include a discussion of how the music and the lessons relate plus a creative writing component where students are encouraged to address how the music affects them personally.
